Day 9: I can see clearly now the mist has gone...

Poor visibility led to a slow start.
Today marked our 4th straight day up on the mountain. The exhaustion is starting to show, as we embarked on a very quiet bus ride. Upon arriving the visibility of the slopes was not ideal, and this meant a few students chose to wait out the clouds in the cafeteria with our resident Coffee House regulars Anna and Brianna.

Clear slopes!

It felt like the mountains were playing games as visibility improved briefly then another cloud of mist would roll over and obscure our view. After lunch thankfully the visibility improved and the fog cleared creating a perfect afternoon for skiing/snowboarding. This gave students the opportunity to embark on some of the more complex runs they were yet to concur, whilst others ventured into the Terrain Park. Mr Melchiori and Mr Woods were first in line to leave their mark on the fresh powder of the black runs which had been closed all morning due to poor visibility.

Experts ready for anything...
The advancements that students have been making in terms of their snowboarding/skiing abilities are impressive. Nemo and Thomas our two star boy snowboarders took on expert runs with ease, whilst our skiers have begun to test their skills on jumps.

Even the best are still have some mishaps with our Best Boy Skier, Roan, taking a slide and tumble trying to recover his dropped ski pole. Thankfully Jamie was on hand with his GoPro to capture the whole scenario, before skiing down to help Roan retrieve his lost equipment.

Even the best fall down sometimes...

A big day on the slopes has meant that many students have chosen bed and a Panadol (or two) over the usual stroll into town and leaving just a few up for organised activities in the conference room.

Table tennis round robin competition

The official Methven Open gave our best ping pong players the opportunity to show their skills in a round robin competition. It was a fierce contest between Emma & Qingyang, Nemo & Adam, Roan & Lewyn, Cyrus & Farhan, Will & Olivia and Mr Melchiori & Mr Woods.

Eventually after many rounds Mr Melchiori and Mr Wood emerged victorious.

1st place:  Mr Wood & Mr Melchiori
2nd place: Adam & Nemo
3rd place: Will & Olivia

With all students in for the night (and many already asleep) we have called it quits on today in anticipation of our final day on the slopes!
